Office is Non Standard

April 5, 2007 at 17:00 · Filed under microsoft

Nearly ALL windows apps I use are CTRL+F to start a new find… On my mac, APPLE+F .

Microsoft apps:
Office = F4 for find, SHIFT F4 to find next.
Outlook (part of office but yet different!) = CTRL+E

What tha?!!!! Just hope in word that you don’t bump ALT+F4 in office or it will close your window!

Hmm, I never use F4 for find…I usually use CTRL+F. And for Find Next I always use F3. Every app I use on Windows works with those…now if only SSH had support to let me use those and convert them to the proper SSH equivalent based on the current running app I’d be in heaven.

Yeah, I’m with Corey on that, I use Ctrl+F and F3 to find next. I kind of hat the directionality of windows search depending where your cursor is. Especially in tools like notepad. But now u got me using vim I really like /regex and forward back searching from the keyboard.

I also like search highlighting. I think this should be standard. Another feature I’d like is that when I double click on a string, it autmatically highlights other matches in the document.

But really, there should be no reason to keep re-inventing the wheel on this.

Agreed. Ctrl+F and F3 (or on my mac APPLE+F, then APPLE+G). It just seems right after all this time of nearly everything using these keys to search…

vim, regex, n, N, and hlsearch are all so nice. That’s why I use gvim on win32 platforms too. none of this textpad stuff.

But MS keep inventing the wheel, I mean F4?!?!!!
