Same here - I have hotmail, yahoo, gmail - and gmail gets the workout - pop being a requirement for some automated data I pass through gmail to my apps. A friend of mine had 5 years of hotmail data, contacts, etc - and didn't use it for 3 months. Microsoft disabled his account and on re-enabling all his data was lost. He's a gmail convert now.

On the plus side they look like getting IMAP as well

I just noticed it today. Hopefully google will add Gdrive sometime soon. I used to use hotmail, but I stopped when they disabled POP access (I may be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure they wanted you to pay to have POP access at one point in time). Now I mostly use gmail. I save my hotmail address for college stuff now. It seems that I got removed off of a lot of spam lists for the time I didn't use hotmail.

Actually Windows Live gave me 5GB back in August, so it's actually Google that's playing catch up.

Hotmail have had 5GB accounts for a quite a while now (or at least mine has been 5GB for a while anyway), maybe 4-5 mths at least. Although it does say 2GB on the homepage,

So it looks like they are playing catch up with google. You are correct Taylor - once logged in you see "Mailbox usage: x% of 5 GB". Their login page just has not caught up.
But I do agree with you about gmail, as I find it much more intuitive.

I've not seen the 5GB amount for Windows live, and in fact if I hit up my rarely used hotmail account - http://www.hotmail.com after it redirects to windows live it clearly states "Sign up for our award-winning service. 2 GB of space - more storage".

I am a gmail fan, I use it exclusively, but think it should be pointed out that windows live hotmail, though inferior in my opinion, offers 5GB of free storage at this point in time.
